We joined the Family Fun Day in Torry held by the Denis Law Legacy Trust and had a busy day spraying 3 giant canvases.
Denis Law Legacy Trust has an annual family fun day with loads of fun activities. We met Aimee from Denis Law a few months ago and have been developing potential projects with some of the young people who attend Street Sports.
The first of these was a workshop as part of the 2024 Family Fun Day, with sticker making and spraypainting. We hadn’t done a spraypainting workshop away from a wall before, so had to think fast and problem solve. Our solution was to buy three 1.5x1m canvasses (which were even bigger and better than we imagined) and to use these as temporary ‘walls’.

We put up a new canvas every hour and there was a steady stream of excited participants ready to learn new skills and techniques.
We also asked participants and their families what they thought about street art and if Torry should have more street art and creative spaces. Everyone was very positive and we collected lots of feedback to help us and Street Sports to plan for future projects.

It was a busy day with lots of people joining in, which is our favourite kind of day!
We organised the canvases to have unique colour schemes so that each one would have a different aesthetic. There were four colours per canvas and they filled up really quick. We had great fun building up layers of colourful doodles. We brought giant stickers and paint pens, and had lots of young people making and sharing stickers.

The finished canvases! Not only did the different colours create distinct results, but as you can see they also developed their own identities – different characters, symbols, tags and paint drips made each canvas unique.
This is just the start of our relationship with Denis Law Legacy Trust and we are looking forward to sharing what else we get up to together!
