Torry Queens

For the last year we have been working with Denis Law Legacy Trust and Streetsports on creative projects, with the long term goal of customising their new storage container at the Tullos Cruyff Court.

Their container project is focussed on opening up creative activity in Tullos and DLLT worked with their ‘Torry Queens’ group to create the vision for these new plans.

We visited the Queens at the DLLT headquarters for a workshop and looked at skills including design, sticker making, and spraypainting. They wanted to express their pride in Torry and connect with people who would use the cruyff court.

Through the workshop two clear strands came through – a warm welcoming sunrise and an imaginative, funky space-scape. We incorporated these into the final design with wording which connected with the importance of Cruyff Court to the community.

Then came the big weekend – installation!

We were assisted by the Torry Queens themselves, as well as Alaina and Aimee from Streetsports who by now, after several workshop sessions, were spraypaint professionals.

There was a lot of teamwork…

and a lot of fun…

and importantly, a lot of new skills…

This project would doubly big with the two murals on either side of the container, but we were super proud of the result!

The group chose to have ‘YES BALL GAMES’ facing the Cruyff Court to celebrate the activity which takes place there, and ‘TORRY’ facing Balnagask Road so that it faced everyone passing and acted as a celebration of the community.

We are really proud of the girls for creating something which has added a bold and bright celebration to their park and we look forward to working with them again!
