Aberdeen Young Carers in Torry

Working with Aberdeen Young Carers on a Doric mural, Dinna Fash Yersel, on South Esplanade.

Working with Aberdeen Young Carers is really important to us. So we jumped at the chance to collaborate on another Doric mural down on South Esplanade.

The group were split in two – the younger group went first, working on the leaves and flowers that surround the piece.

Then, after a quick break for lunch, the groups swapped over and the older team jumped in to work on the letters.

In little groups they worked together to match their letters to the sketch and join up all the lines and colour blocks. We loved how good they were are decoding the sketch and working together in teams. There was a lot of collaboration and sharing going on, which was perfect for a wall of this scale!

We were very glad to be given the wall by the Port of Aberdeen, who let us use the wall and the yard next to it for storage during the project. It is great to be able to work in different parts of the city with different partners supporting the work we do and provide an opportunity to Aberdeen Young Carers.

The final result is so vibrant, and the feedback from the young carers was great. There was so much talent coming from our first time artists and we look forward to working with them again on future projects.

This project was part funded by Wee Grants for Creativity in the Scots Leid
