Noise: V2k for Tracing Torry

Unlike the other artists in the Tracing Torry Trail, V2k works with stencils to create his mural installations. For this work he was inspired by community music and musicians in Torry, as well as the blur between noise and music.

The first step for his mural was a stencil layer, to map out the size and shape of his mural.

Then he painted freehand to shade and ‘colour in’ all the areas.

Once the colours were filled in, the stencil went back up to add the details. This was a painstaking process to line-up the stencil correctly and neatly fill in the gaps.

With the figure completed, V2k moved onto the letter stencil, lining it up and filling it in.

The last step was the complete the ‘bridges’ in the outer letters. Bridges are the non-cut-out bits of stencils that keep the stencil as one piece while letting paint in the cut-outs. V2k decided not to complete the bridges where the letters overlapped the portrait to create dialogue and the impression of movement between the two layers.

We are thankful to Iain and Crombie Motors for letting us paint this wall.
